I’ve been asked many questions about the yoga teacher training program I offer in Albany, NY. One of the most popular questions I receive from potential students is “Do you think I’m ready?”. I always give the same reply: Of course! You don’t need to have an advanced practice in order to benefit from or even participate in a 200-hour yoga training. A 200-hour training gives you a foundation from which to build.
There are a number of...more

As yoga continues to grow in popularity, there are still a number of people that wonder if yoga is something that is right for them. Any yoga teacher would tell you, “you don’t have to be flexible to do yoga; you have to do yoga to be flexible.” Still, the thought of needing to touch one’s toes or hold an inverted position seems too intimidating for some. The truth is, there are many different types of yoga and there is a style suitable for...more

Every winter, I make it my fitness goal to have my BEST BODY YET! just in time for summer. Really, it’s my way to avoid becoming a slouch on the couch, something that is really easy to do when it’s brutally cold outside and you’d prefer to be in front of a TV under layers.
But since I discovered The Hot Yoga Spot five years ago, I’ve been successful at achieving this goal every year. Although I am at my strongest ever, I continue to...more

Your hamstrings aren’t happy with you. You’ve been at odds with them for a while. Isn’t that what running is about, pushing on when you think you have nothing left? Your mind and body spent the last 5 miles of that marathon scrapping it out, and those hamstrings, screaming though they were…
Jessica Lustig, The Hot Yoga Spot’s owner, was named to the Albany Business Review’s 40 Under 40 for 2013. “I decided to take my passion for teaching and my love of hot yoga to create my own business and start my future,” Jessica says. Giving up her classroom ambitions was the toughest decision she has ever made. She says it was also her best.”
“When you have that heat going, you’re sweating a ton,” says Jessica Lustig, owner of The Hot Yoga Spot. “People look like they just went swimming. They’re dripping sweat.” Doing yoga in a warm room makes good sense, Lustig says. It’s easier and safer to stretch the body when it’s warm and it enables people to get deeper into the poses. Heat also raises the heart rate, which increases the cardiovascular benefits of the exercise. But no matter...more
The much anticipated announcement is here. The Business Review is proud to introduce this year’s 40 Under Forty. The class of 2013 is the latest group of young, ambitious professionals to be honored in a Capital Region tradition that dates back 14 years. A Business Review advisory board picked the latest 40 from more than 500 nominations.
The Hot Yoga Spot, which offers yoga classes at temperatures up to 95 degrees, plans to open at Stuyvesant Plaza in Guilderland, New York. The business will nearly quadruple in size when it moves in September from Fuller Road to the outdoor shopping plaza. Jessica Lustig opened the business in December and quickly outgrew the space. The new location will expand the size to 2,707 square feet.
It starts off at 90. It gets hotter. “Every single part of your body is strong,” the yoga instructor intoned it in a soothing voice. What a lovely thought. But by the fifteenth downward facing dog it sure didn’t feel true. Everyone looking backwards between their own legs could see me on my haunches, sitting this one out. Still, there’s something nice about a good sweat. I could feel it beading and rolling down the side of my face. It felt...more
